Metaverse
16/04/2026
The metaverse is a collection of virtual, interconnected digital worlds where users can interact, work, play, and own assets. Cryptocurrency and blockchain technology enable true ownership of in-world assets — unlike traditional games, blockchain-based assets can be transferred, sold, or used across platforms.
Crypto's role in the metaverse
- True ownership — in-game items, land, and characters can be represented as on-chain tokens that users genuinely own and control
- Interoperability — tokens from one platform can potentially be used in another
- Permissionless economies — users can earn, trade, and transact without a central authority's approval
Mining connection
Some metaverse-adjacent projects use Proof of Work tokens or GPU-mined assets as the base currency of their virtual economy. GPU miners can earn these tokens and participate in metaverse economies. As the line between gaming, DeFi, and virtual worlds continues to blur, miners producing PoW tokens may find demand from metaverse applications.
