DigiByte (DGB)

16/04/2026

DigiByte (DGB) is a Proof of Work blockchain launched in 2014. It is notable for using five simultaneous mining algorithms, distributing hashrate across different hardware types and making the network highly resistant to centralization.

Key facts

  • Algorithms: SHA-256, Scrypt, Skein, Qubit, Odocrypt (5 algorithms)
  • Block time: ~15 seconds
  • Max supply: 21,000,000,000 DGB (21 billion)
  • Mining hardware: ASICs (for SHA-256, Scrypt) and GPUs (for other algorithms)

Five-algorithm design

Each algorithm mines approximately 20% of all DGB blocks. This means:

  • ASIC miners (SHA-256, Scrypt) and GPU miners share the network equally
  • An attacker would need to control 51% of hashrate across multiple algorithms simultaneously
  • Difficulty adjusts per algorithm independently

DigiByte can be mined alongside Bitcoin via merged mining on the SHA-256 algorithm.
