Dogecoin (DOGE)

16/04/2026

Dogecoin (DOGE) is a Proof of Work cryptocurrency launched in December 2013 as a parody of Bitcoin, based on the "Doge" internet meme. Despite its origins, it developed a large community and became one of the most recognized cryptocurrencies globally.

Key facts

  • Algorithm: Scrypt (same as Litecoin)
  • Block time: ~1 minute
  • Supply: No hard cap — ~5 billion new DOGE issued per year
  • Mining hardware: ASIC (Scrypt ASICs)
  • Merged mining: Yes — mined alongside Litecoin (LTC) and other Scrypt coins

Merged mining with Litecoin

Since 2014, Dogecoin supports merged mining with Litecoin. This means Scrypt ASIC miners can earn DOGE simultaneously while mining LTC at no extra cost. Most major Litecoin pools also pay out DOGE automatically.
