Ethereum Classic (ETC)
۱۴۰۵/۱/۲۷
Ethereum Classic (ETC) is the original Ethereum blockchain that continued without modification after a controversial hard fork in 2016. When the Ethereum community chose to reverse the DAO hack with a fork, a minority rejected the rollback on principle ("code is law") and kept the original chain — which became Ethereum Classic.
Key facts
- Algorithm: EtcHash
- Consensus: Proof of Work
- Mining hardware: GPU
- Block time: ~13 seconds
- Max supply: ~210 million ETC
ETC vs ETH
| Ethereum Classic (ETC) | Ethereum (ETH) | |
|---|---|---|
| Consensus | Proof of Work | Proof of Stake |
| Mineable | Yes | No |
| Smart contracts | Yes (EVM compatible) | Yes |
| Origin | Original chain (2015) | Forked chain (2016) |
Post-Merge relevance
After Ethereum switched to Proof of Stake in 2022, a significant portion of former ETH GPU miners moved to ETC as the most direct alternative. ETC's hashrate surged following The Merge.
